Who doesn’t need more healthy dips and sauces in their life? Let’s face it. Dips and sauces have a horrible reputation for putting on those extra pounds…but they are so tasty that one might consider it worth it. Me? I say why do the two need to be mutually exclusive? A Simple Healthy Tzatziki Sauce is easy, fast and very very tasty!
Healthy Tzatziki Sauce
So let’s start by learning how to pronounce that word. Tzatziki (saat-zee-key). You’re welcome.
There is so much that I love pairing this recipe with. Of course there are the classic ways to use it: with pita and as a veggie dip (my favorite), or as a sauce for gyros. However, there is so much more. It can take chicken from being same ‘ol boring to having a little something different. I LOVE paring it with salmon and roasted or grilled veggies. And, as a burger sauce….wow.
This tzatziki recipe is only 6 ingredients. No cooking necessary, and should only take maaaay-be 10 minutes to make.
To Make A Simple, Healthy Tzatziki Sauce:
you will need:
- 1 1/4 Cup Plain Greek Yogurt
- 8 Inches Of English/Seedless Cucumber
- 1-2 Cloves Of Garlic
- 1/2 Of A Lemon (Zest Only)
- Salt
- 1/2 Tsp Dried Or Fresh Dill
Instructions:
Lay down a few layers of paper towels. Cut an english (seedless) cucumber in half and scoop out the seeds. If you use a regular cucumber, you will need to peel it as well. The skin will be too thick and waxy. Using the large side of the box grater, grate the cucumber over the paper towels.
Once all the cucumber is grated, with additional paper towels over top, press out at much water as you can from the cucumber. When it starts to stick to the paper towels, it’s dry enough.
Finely dice a clove of garlic. You can add more if you really love garlic, but the longer the sauce sits, the stronger it will get.
Then zest a half of lemon. In a bowl, combine the greek yogurt, cucumber, garlic, and zest, and mix well. Add a pinch of salt and dried dill. Taste to check the seasoning and adjust to your preferences. Serve with fresh veggies or your favorite meats and fish.
