Sometimes taking the next step with a hobby can bring some confusion with picking the proper equipment, especially when it comes to a fitness program as popular as yoga. There a many products on the market with a wide variety of costs. Do you know how to choose a yoga mat? Here’s some of my best tips
How To Choose A Yoga Mat
1. How much time do you spend doing yoga?
Do you have a daily practice? Are you limited on time and can only make it to one class per week? Is this amount going to change in the near future? Putting a number to this question will take a lot of confusion out.
If you spend more than a couple hours a week on yoga then durability is something that definitely needs to be considered!
2. How are your joints?
Mat thickness is a big factor in making your choice. Thin mats have their moments of appropriateness, but if you have any joint pain, then buying the thin, generic mat is probably going to make you count the minutes until your session is over.
However, having a mat that is too thick can be very challenging when it comes to balance….which brings me to my next point.
The form you have selected does not exist.
3. What kind of yoga do you like to do?
As I just mentioned a mat that is too thick and soft is going to cause some issues for anyone doing a lot of balance work. If you choose a thick mat, make sure it has a good bit of density and firmness to it.
How about warm or hot yoga? or do you practice outside in the heat? Materials used to make yoga mats play a big part on stickiness and absorbency. No one wants their yoga mat to mimic a slip ‘n slide, right?
4. Do you travel?
Yoga mats are not all a standard size. (did you know that? I didn’t know that) If you travel often and want to have a mat to bring with you, it is possible to find them a little smaller.
So now that you’ve answered all the questions on how to choose a yoga mat, how do you decide between the millions of products? Luckily, that one is pretty easy. Reviewsbee is a great place to find unbiased reviews on all kinds of sporting equipment. Check out their review of the 10 best yoga mats.
