5 Reasons You Should Eat Chia Seeds Every Day

12/20/2016 By CTWellness

Some of you may be wondering what the big deal is about chia seeds. I do not usually buy into the hype of the latest and greatest superfood, but after trying chia seeds I definitely could see why there was well-deserved fuss! With these 5 reasons, you will see why you should eat chia seeds on a very regular basis.

5 reasons you should eat chia seeds every day

5 Reasons You Should Eat Chia Seeds Every Day

1. Chia Seeds Have Anti-aging Properties

The reason for this is they are one of the highest known sources of antioxidants; nearly double that of the nearest runner up. They are also very high in Omegas.  This can been seen eating them every day or even using them as a face mask.

2. Prevents Cancer

Depending on where you read, 7-8x more Omegas than a serving of Salmon. The particular kind of Omega fatty acids improve heart health and have been shown to be effective in the protection against breast cancer and cervical cancer

3. Help You Lose Weight and Build Muscle

They help with weight loss by absorbing 30x their weight in water, consequently keeping you full quickly and longer. Chia seeds also are very high in protein.  This combinations will help the body stay hydrated longer, fill you up faster, and will regulate your appetite.

4. Rich In Protein

Chia Seeds have almost double the protein of any other seed or nut. For those people looking to increase their plant based protein with something other than beans, this is an excellent and easy way to do that! In fact, it might be worth it to try a smoothie with chia post workout, instead of those sugary protein powders.

5. Reduces Your Risk Of Diabetes

Chia seeds are great for diabetics because it is reputed to help stabilize blood sugar. This is due to the very high fiber content and lineolic acid levels.  Some qualified professionals would even go as far to say that regular consumptions of chia seeds will reverse diabetes!

They are also high in calcium, magnesium, folate, iron, and many other essential nutrients. It is almost like a multi-vitamin in food form.

How To Use Chia Seeds:

There are many ways to incorporate them in your diet.  They have no flavor so you can add them to many things! The easiest way is to soak them for just a few minutes so that they absorbs some liquid (this will keep them from sticking to your insides).

Chia seeds do have some enzyme inhibitors which is their natural protection.  By soaking them for just a few minutes you can break those inhibitors which will make some of the nutrients more readily available.

Here’s a list of ways to add them to your diet:

  • add them to your favorite baked treats
  • smoothies
  • drink them with your water
  • make chia pudding for a healthy breakfast or dessert
  • add them to your favorite overnight oats recipe

The health benefits of chia seeds are infinite.  These 5 are a good start but there are many many more.  Just imagine how amazing you will feel if you eat chia seeds every day.  From first hand experience, I can tell you that I have noticed a big difference and will never be without them for any length of time from here on out.

You are most welcome! I've never actually tried them just in water, although I know you can do that. If you recommend it I will have to try it :)

How many times a day do you eat the chia seeds? How many tbsp?

Hi Debbie, personally I do once a day, 1-2 tbsp either in pudding form or mixed into a smoothie, or soaked in a glass of water for 10 minutes (they don't have any flavor). Be sure to soak them in liquid. If you have them dry they'll stick to your mouth and throat.
